Non-Cantonese speaker, from abroad like you.
But I really don't think you should worry too much about the language barrier. After all, if you do make it into the club, at most events you will still be the only non-local. I've been in the club for about 1.5 years (most of the time as the only non-native Cantonese speaker), but everyone is very welcoming regardless. There will often be times when conversations happen and you won't understand, but someone will usually explain to you after (I'm quite used to this from work and other scenarios).
Anyways, don't worry about it too much. And any Cantonese that you can show off will be greatly appreciated
